HOW WE CAN HELP

We Love Serving Our Local Community

The Benjamin E. Mays Family Center was incorporated in March of 2022 and received tax-exempt status in September of 2022. The center is a community effort with many individuals in Pacolet expressing the need for this resource. Early leadership and financial support for this endeavor was offered by the Benjamin E. Mays Alumni Association, the Mary Black Foundation, the Spartanburg County Foundation, and Vulcan, Inc.

Heightened Development was commissioned to survey the community on needs and interests, and based on community input the Board of Directors worked hard to hire an Executive Director, Jerry Rice, who will work to build resources in the areas listed to the right.

Services will be offered through key partners with expertise in each area, such as SC Works, ReGenesis Health Center, Hope Center for Children, and First Steps of Spartanburg. In addition to these services, we envision the center as a community hub that allows residents to build connections with each other.

Economic Mobility

Resources such as job training, computer labs, resume building, interviewing skills, and GED classes are coming.

Education

The community has expressed interest in early childhood supports such as Early Head Start, after-school tutoring, etc. Partnerships and funding for these supports are still being explored.

Family and Parenting Supports

Our community is only as strong as the support we offer our children and caregivers. The center envisions future supports such as toddler playgroups, parenting supports through Triple P, and access to home visitation for some new parents.

Health & Wellness

Health and mental health services are coming soon. We are also exploring partnerships that may support nutrition or fitness needs, and services to support addiction recovery.
